AEO Content Blocks: TL;DR, FAQ, Pro Tip and Pros & Cons

What the four AEO content blocks do, why skimmable beats walls of text, and how to pick a design, accent colour and TL;DR bullet style.

AEO Content Blocks are four ready-made sections the plugin can place in your articles: TL;DR, FAQ, Pro tip, and Pros & Cons. You choose which ones new AI drafts may use, and how all of them look on your site, under Settings → Content Blocks.

Why use content blocks?

“Nobody reads blog posts any more.” True to a degree. AI Overviews and ChatGPT now answer plenty of questions before anyone clicks. But people still click through every day, and the ones who do are the ones who become customers. So a post is written for two readers at once: a human who decides in a few seconds whether your page is worth their time, and the AI crawlers that quote pages with clean structure.

Nobody sits through a wall of text. Content blocks make a post skimmable: a TL;DR up top for the reader in a hurry, a Pro tip that rewards the one who scrolls, a Pros & Cons pair for the comparison shopper, an FAQ for the visitor with one exact question. They give the page visual rhythm without decorative images that slow it down. And because every block is plain HTML with real headings and lists, no JavaScript, machines read the page as cleanly as humans skim it.

The four blocks

TL;DR

  •   Fresh beans within four weeks of roasting taste noticeably better.
  •   A scale beats every gadget: consistent ratios are the whole game.
  •   Grind right before brewing, never the night before.

Pro tip

Heat the mug first so the coffee stays hot longer.

A TL;DR and a Pro tip as readers see them, in the Boxed design with the star bullet style.

  • TL;DR: 3 to 5 bullet takeaways near the start. Each line answers the reader on its own, so someone in a hurry gets the point without scrolling. New drafts always write the TL;DR as bullets, never as a paragraph.
  • FAQ: real questions in one accordion. FAQ structured data is added for you, so the page is eligible for FAQ rich results with no extra setup.
  • Pro tip: one genuinely useful, practical tip. One per article, and only where it earns its place.
  • Pros & Cons: a balanced two-column list for comparisons and reviews. The pros stay green and the cons stay red in every design, so the meaning never changes.

Every draft, or when it fits

Each block has a switch that controls what new Topical Map drafts may use (a Pro and Growth feature). Two of the blocks behave differently on purpose:

  • Every draft (TL;DR, Pro tip): checked before a draft counts. If one is missing, the draft is retried automatically and an invalid result is not charged.
  • When it fits (FAQ, Pros & Cons): offered to the writer and used only where they suit the article. A how-to guide will not be forced to carry a Pros & Cons table.

Switches affect new drafts only. Published blocks keep working if you turn one off, and shortcodes from your theme or other plugins are left alone.

Choosing a design

The design settings apply to how the blocks look on your site, for every visitor, on every post that uses them, and they change instantly with no post edits. They work on the Free plugin too.

  • Boxed: soft tinted panels with an accent bar. The default.
  • Minimal: no boxes, a thin accent rule and clean rows.
  • Outline: hairline borders, no fills. Quiet and neutral.
  • Bold: solid accent header bands. Hard to miss.

You can also pick an accent colour to match your brand (Pros & Cons keep their green and red), choose rounded or square corners, and set the TL;DR bullet style: a solid bullet, a hollow bullet, an arrow, a check, or a star. The live preview in the settings shows exactly what your readers will get.

Writing blocks by hand

Every block is a plain shortcode, so you can also place one in any post yourself:

[aeogm_tldr title="TL;DR"]]
- First takeaway
- Second takeaway
- Third takeaway
[[/aeogm_tldr]

[aeogm_pro_tip title="Pro tip"]]Practical advice here.[[/aeogm_pro_tip]

[aeogm_faqs title="Frequently Asked Questions"]]
  [[aeogm_faq q="A real question?"]]The direct answer.[[/aeogm_faq]]
[[/aeogm_faqs]

[aeogm_pros_cons]]
  [[aeogm_pros]]- First advantage
- Second advantage[[/aeogm_pros]]
  [[aeogm_cons]]- First limitation[[/aeogm_cons]]
[[/aeogm_pros_cons]

The blocks render with your chosen design on any theme, in light or dark mode, and need no page builder. If you later switch designs, every block you ever published updates with it.
