The short answer
There is no plugin that will make an AI engine cite you. Anything promising that is overselling. What an AEO plugin can genuinely do is make your content extractable, control which AI crawlers reach your site, and measure whether engines are citing and referring you.
We build one of the plugins on this page. So the useful thing we can offer is a comparison by capability, and an honest note on when you do not need a dedicated AEO plugin at all.
Disclosure first, because it changes how you should read everything below: we make AEO God Mode. We have tried to write the page we wanted when we were choosing tools, which means saying where the others are stronger and where none of us is needed.
What an AEO plugin can and cannot do
| Claim you will see | Reality |
|---|---|
| “Get cited by ChatGPT” | Cannot be delivered. No plugin has access to citation decisions. Anyone claiming a causal link is guessing. |
| “Optimises for all 23 AI ranking factors” | Unmeasurable. Nobody outside the labs knows the factor list. Named counts are invented. |
| “Schema markup gets you into AI answers” | Weak at best. Schema drives eligibility for specific Google result features. No engine has confirmed it as a citation input. |
| “Control which AI bots crawl you” | Real. This is just robots directives and server rules. Verifiable. |
| “See if AI engines cite you” | Real. Query the engines, look for your domain. Measurable and checkable. |
| “See AI referral traffic” | Real. Referrer headers from AI engines are visible in your own logs. |
Use that table as a filter. Any plugin whose marketing lives in the top three rows is selling belief. Judge on the bottom three.
The comparison
Compared on capability, not adjectives. Rank Math and Yoast are included because for many sites the honest answer is that they are enough.
| Capability | AEO God Mode | Rank Math | Yoast |
|---|---|---|---|
| Traditional SEO (titles, sitemaps, redirects) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Schema engine | Yes + conflict detector | Yes | Yes |
| AI crawler allowlist / blocklist | 18 bots | No | No |
| AI crawler log | Yes | No | No |
| llms.txt generator | Yes | No | No |
| Citation tracking across engines | 4 engines | No | No |
| AI referral traffic analytics | Yes | No | No |
| Content gap scanner | Yes | Basic | Basic |
| Free tier | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Runs alongside an SEO plugin | Designed to | Conflicts | Conflicts |
Pro tip
The row that matters most when combining plugins is schema conflicts. Two plugins both emitting Organization or Article markup produces duplicate or contradictory nodes, and the usual symptom is a rich result that silently stops appearing. Whatever you install, check what your pages actually output afterwards rather than assuming the settings screen reflects reality.
The fastest way to judge any plugin on this page is to install the free tier and look at your own crawler log for a week. Download it free.
When you do not need an AEO plugin
Genuinely. Save your money if any of these describe you.
You publish rarely
Under one post a month, there is nothing to measure and nothing to optimise. Get your schema valid and move on.
Your SEO basics are broken
If pages are not indexed, or your titles are duplicated, fix that first. AEO on top of a broken foundation changes nothing.
You want a ranking guarantee
Nobody can sell that, us included. If that is the requirement, no tool on this page meets it.
You are happy in a spreadsheet
You can query four engines by hand and log the results yourself. It costs time, not money, and the numbers are just as real.
How to actually evaluate one
-
Install the free tier and look at your crawler log
Within a week you will see which AI bots visit and how often. If a plugin cannot show you this, it cannot tell you anything about AI behaviour on your site.
-
Check your schema output on a real page
View source and read the JSON-LD. Compare against what the plugin claims to emit. Discrepancies here predict everything else.
-
Run one citation check and read the sources
Does it show you the actual answer and the actual cited URLs, or just a score? A score you cannot audit is not a measurement.
-
Ask what happens when you cancel
Does your schema survive? Do your settings persist? Plugins that break your markup on deactivation are a trap regardless of features.
Our honest positioning
AEO God Mode does not do traditional SEO. No title templates, no redirect manager, no XML sitemaps. That is deliberate. Rank Math and Yoast do those things well, and rebuilding them badly would help nobody.
What we add is the layer they do not cover: crawler control across 18 AI bots, a crawler log so you can see who actually visits, citation tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, and referral analytics so you know which engine sends people who convert.
What we will not claim
We will not tell you our plugin gets you cited. We can tell you whether you are cited, show you who is cited instead, and make your pages easier to extract cleanly. Whether an engine then quotes you depends on your content and your reputation, and no plugin controls either.
Try the free tier before you compare anything
Crawler allowlist for 18 AI bots, schema engine with conflict detection, llms.txt generator and the content gap scanner. Enough to judge whether any of this matters for your site.
- Runs alongside Rank Math or Yoast
- No account, no card, no expiry
- Uninstall leaves your markup intact

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AEO plugin for WordPress?
It depends what you need. For crawler control, citation tracking and AI referral analytics, a dedicated AEO plugin such as AEO God Mode covers ground that SEO plugins do not. For schema and traditional on-page work, Rank Math and Yoast are already strong. Many sites should run one of each rather than choose.
Do I need an AEO plugin if I already use Rank Math or Yoast?
Not necessarily. SEO plugins handle schema, sitemaps and on-page basics. An AEO plugin adds AI crawler control, crawler logging, citation tracking and AI referral analytics. If you do not need those, your SEO plugin is enough.
Can a plugin get my site cited by ChatGPT?
No. No plugin has any influence over an engine’s citation decisions. A plugin can make your content easier to extract, control which AI crawlers access your site, and measure whether you are being cited. Treat any product promising citations as overselling.
Will running two plugins cause schema conflicts?
It can. Two plugins emitting the same schema types produce duplicate or contradictory markup, which commonly shows up as rich results quietly disappearing. Check what your pages actually output after installing anything, and use a plugin with a conflict detector if you are combining them.
Is there a free AEO plugin for WordPress?
Yes. AEO God Mode has a free tier on WordPress.org that includes the AI crawler allowlist for 18 bots, the schema engine with conflict detection, the llms.txt generator and the content gap scanner, with no account required.
