Smart Link Builder (Page & Query Modes) - AEO God Mode

Smart Link Builder (Page & Query Modes)

Use the Smart Link Builder to insert AI-suggested internal links from your GSC dashboard. Page Mode picks natural anchors for orphan pages; Query Mode forces real GSC search queries as exact anchor text.

Most pages on a typical WordPress site have too few internal links pointing to them. AI engines and Google both treat low-link-count pages as low-priority signals — those pages get crawled less, indexed slower, and cited rarely. The Smart Link Builder fixes this directly from your GSC dashboard.

It comes in two modes, accessible from different tabs of the GSC integration. Both produce real, contextually relevant links written into your existing posts. Each click costs 2 credits from your monthly AI allowance.

Why this matters for SEO and AEO

Internal links do three things AI engines and search engines actually reward:

  • They speed up indexing. Google discovers new pages by following links from already-indexed ones. A page with zero internal links is an orphan that Google may never crawl, no matter how good the content is.
  • They build topical authority. When five different posts on your site link to a single page using descriptive anchor text, AI engines start to associate that page with the anchor topic. That association is what gets you cited in answers.
  • They turn search demand into rankings. Anchor text is one of the strongest ranking signals for the linked-to page. If you build links using a real Google query as the anchor, you’re literally pointing search engines at the relationship between that query and your page.

Doing this manually is the right approach but it doesn’t scale — every time you publish a new pillar page, every time a new query starts ranking, you’d have to read every other post and decide where the link belongs. The Smart Link Builder does that work for you and shows you the result in a popup before anything is changed.

The two modes at a glance

Pages tab

Page Mode

Pick a page that needs more inbound links. The plugin proposes contextually relevant places to link to it from across your site, choosing natural descriptive anchor text for each.

  • Triggered from the Pages tab
  • Anchor text is chosen for you (always natural)
  • Best for: indexing weak pages, fixing orphans, boosting pillar content
Query Explorer tab

Query Mode

Pick a real Google query someone already searched for. The plugin uses that exact query as the anchor text and finds places across your site where it can be inserted naturally.

  • Triggered from the AI Query Explorer tab
  • Anchor text is the GSC query itself
  • 1 to 9 link opportunities per click
  • Best for: capturing real search demand, building keyword-targeted authority

How to use Page Mode

Open the GSC integration in your dashboard and switch to the Pages tab. Any page row with 0 internal links shows an amber warning triangle and a Build button next to the count:

/aeo-god-mode-vs-rank-math/

0

Click Build. After a few seconds the suggestion popup opens. Each card shows where the link will be added, what the anchor will be, and exactly how the sentence will read after the change:

Click Approve & Insert on any card and that link is written into the source post immediately. You don’t have to approve every card — pick only the ones you like. Each card is independent.

If none of the suggestions feel right, click Regenerate to try again with a fresh batch (this costs 2 more credits). Or close the popup and try a different page.

How to use Query Mode

This is the more powerful mode if you care about ranking for specific queries. Switch to the AI Query Explorer tab. Every row shows a query that your site already gets impressions for, plus a small dropdown and a Build button:

85 impressions

The dropdown lets you choose how many link opportunities to find (1 to 9). Click Build and the popup opens with that number of suggestions, all using the GSC query as the anchor text:

Notice that every suggestion uses the same anchor text — that’s the difference from Page Mode. In Query Mode the anchor is fixed to the search query you picked, and only the source sentences vary. This is how you build a focused topic cluster around a single ranking opportunity.

Pro tip: Query Mode is most powerful when you target queries that already rank between positions 5 and 20. Adding 3 internal links with that exact anchor often pushes those queries into the top 10 within a couple of weeks.

Recommended workflow

  1. Start with your weakest indexed pages.

In the Pages tab, sort by Internal Links ascending. Run Page Mode on the top 5 zero-link pages. This gives Google something to crawl and index those pages from.

  2. Then go data-driven with Query Mode.

Switch to the Query Explorer tab. Look for queries with high impressions but middling positions (5-20). Run Query Mode on each one with 3-5 opportunities.

  3. Review every suggestion before approving.

The popup shows you exactly what will change. If a suggestion doesn’t fit your tone or feels forced, skip it and approve the others. Each card is independent.

  4. Re-run after a couple of weeks.

Once Google has re-crawled and your impressions and rankings shift, the Query Explorer tab will show new opportunities. Repeat the process on the new queries.

Frequently asked questions

Will it ever change a post I didn’t approve?

No. The plugin only writes to a source post when you click Approve & Insert on a specific card. Each card is reviewed and approved independently. Closing the popup without approving anything leaves your posts untouched.

What if I don’t like any of the suggestions?

Click Regenerate. This spends 2 more credits and produces a fresh batch. You can also close the popup and try a different target page or query.

How does it know which posts to suggest links from?

The plugin analyses your published content and picks posts that are contextually related to the target. Posts that already link to the target are automatically excluded.

Does it skip pages that already have a link to my target?

Yes. If a post already contains a link to the target URL, it’s filtered out before suggestions are generated. You won’t see duplicate suggestions.

Can I undo an approved insert?

Yes — every WordPress post keeps a revision history. Open the source post in the editor, click Revisions, and roll back. The Smart Link Builder writes its changes as normal post updates, so they appear in revisions like any other edit.

How fast is it?

The first time you build links for a target page it takes a few seconds. Every subsequent build for the same target is faster because earlier work is reused.

Will the inserted links look spammy?

No. The plugin is designed specifically to avoid the patterns that look spammy: it never uses generic anchor text like “click here” or “read more”, it never repeats the same anchor too many times, and it never breaks the grammar of your sentences. Every suggestion is reviewed by you before going live.

Does it work on a fresh install with little content?

The Smart Link Builder needs at least a handful of published posts before it can find good link opportunities. Sites with under 10 posts may see “No suitable candidates found” messages — that’s expected. Once you have 20+ published posts on related topics, results improve dramatically.
